The Rakia mission, along with the Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE on the wrist of mission leader Eytan Stibbe, spent 17 days 1 hour and 37 minutes in space, as the space crew circled the Earth 273 times at an altitude of 250 miles at almost 17,500 mph, covering a distance of more than 7 million miles in total. It’s a horological feat, lending an otherworldly quality to the idea of a timepiece. The complex movement is built around a three-axis gravitational vortex. The midnight blue starry background reflects the deep and captivating color of the firmament (“Rakia” in Hebrew) and the pronounced domed case, in anti-reflective sapphire crystal, is in itself a microcosm: four satellites rotate in constant motion, whose dial, the tourbillon cage, a spherical diamond that reflects the moon and a magnesium-lacquered globe that reflects the Earth. Everything is composed in the Bucherer BLUE color palette, giving this timepiece a true galactic universe.

“The Astronomia Bucherer BLUE tourbillon is a truly unique timepiece that elevates the art of watchmaking above the Earth, above time,” comments Benjamin Arabov, CEO of Jacob & Co. “So the very idea to send this special Astronomia into space, as you can imagine, was truly exciting. Circling the Earth, the watch had the same view of us that we usually have of it. This mirroring is typical of my way of envisaging the creation of timepieces. »

Axiom Head of Mission, Eytan Stibbe, Investor and Philanthropist, adds: “The Astronomia Tourbillon Bucherer BLUE watch continued flawlessly to display accurate time during launch and return to Earth, enduring extremely high G-forces and also microgravity in space.
